I once saw a post where somebody said that in the original stories, Holmes was all proper and gentlemanly and everybody loved him and it wasn’t nearly as interesting. Then she went on to praise Gatiss and Moffat for their originality and daring by changing the character so drastically, and adding interest by making him a dick.
